The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia has four offices which are located in Alexandria, Richmond, Norfolk, and Newport News. Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs) are assigned to each of these offices to prosecute criminal cases and litigate civil cases. Job Description
<br><br>
An appointment as an AUSA with the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Virginia ("office) offers unique and challenging experiences for highly motivated attorneys: an opportunity to work on their own caseload and handle their own trials and appeals as a representative of the United States. The district is hiring for AUSAs in the Criminal Division within all four offices. Selectees may be assigned to one of the units listed below based of management decision and experience.

<b>Units:</b> Appellate, Majors Crimes, Cybercrime, Financial Crimes & Public Corruption, National Security & International Crime, Narcotics Trafficking & Money Laundering, Drug/Violent Crimes, White Collar, Asset Recovery, and General Crimes

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

This position will require travel to other EDVA offices for court appearances and case assignments as needed.

Qualifications
<br><br>
<b>Required Qualifications:</b><br>
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.

United States citizenship is required.
<br><br>
<b>Preferred Qualifications:</b> Experience litigating criminal cases in the federal courts and/or a federal judicial clerkship is desirable. Equivalent experience litigating in state courts will also be considered. Experience litigating violent crime cases is preferred.

Assistant United States Attorney (Criminal)

<p></p><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div>Under the general supervision of the Senior Assistant Attorney General (SAAG), the Chief Assistant Attorney General, the Chief Deputy Attorney General, and the Attorney General, the Supervising Deputy Attorney General (SDAG) provides proactive, organized, detail-oriented, hands-on leadership, supervision, direction, training, and mentorship to a team of legal professionals that includes Deputy Attorneys General (DAGs) and paralegals. The SDAG must ensure that their team members are proactively and effectively litigating their assigned cases and producing high-quality work in an efficient and productive manner. The SDAG may also perform legal work related to trials, appeals, and class actions before various federal and state courts.</div><div></div><div><br>
In this position, the SDAG will focus on training, mentoring, and supervising the section's paralegals and newly hired DAGs, including Honors and Range DAGs. The SDAG will also work on special projects under the guidance of the SAAG. The SDAG also handles general administrative, personnel, and management matters; interviews candidates for open positions; evaluates the performance of, and provides substantive input to, DAGs and paralegals including preparing probation reports and annual evaluations and conducting progressive discipline as necessary. The SDAG works collaboratively and professionally with colleagues, section members, and support staff; maintains a professional and positive relationship with clients and courts; and exercises appropriate discretion in the handling of personnel and other sensitive or privileged matters.</div><p>

The United States Attorney's Office, Middle District of Florida (MDFL), is seeking to hire two (2) Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) responsible for investigating and prosecuting cases involving illegal immigration, illegal trafficking of dangerous drugs and human beings, violent crime, and Cartels and Transnational Criminal Organizations designated as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs).

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

The MDFL is headquartered in Tampa and has branch offices in Orlando, Jacksonville, Fort Myers and Ocala. These positions will be filled in any of the following three (3) locations: Fort Myers, Jacksonville, or Orlando. Please be sure to state your location preference in your cover letter.

Qualifications
<br><br>
<b>Required Qualifications:</b> Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) and have at least 1* year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
<br><br>
United States citizenship is required.
<br><br>
<b>Preferred Qualifications:</b> Applicants should have excellent academic credentials and some litigation experience, preferably at least 3 years. Applicants also should be computer literate, possess superior oral and written communication skills, have strong character and excellent interpersonal skills, have the capacity to function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment, and have a strong commitment to public service.

Salary

Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $73,939 to $193,394 which includes 17.06% locality pay.
