Adaptive Arts Teacher Job DescriptionPay Rate: $40/hourPosition SummaryThe Washington County Museum of Fine Arts seeks a creative, patient, and engaging instructor to lead its Adaptive Arts Program for adults with special needs at a variety of ability levels. This position is responsible for teaching three six-week sessions designed to support participants in exploring art in a welcoming, inclusive environment. Classes meet from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, and instructors are paid for both instructional time and an additional hour each week for planning. The teacher will use the museum&rsquo;s permanent collection and rotating exhibitions as inspiration for lessons, incorporating a range of accessible art-making techniques. A class budget is provided for materials.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Plan and teach adaptive art lessons for three six-week sessions (10:00 am&ndash;12:00 pm) designed for adults with special needs across a variety of ability levels.</li><li>Incorporate the museum&rsquo;s collection and exhibitions into lesson plans to inspire creativity and engagement.</li><li>Use accessible art materials and adaptive techniques tailored to participants&rsquo; abilities and interests.</li><li>Foster a safe, supportive classroom where adults of all abilities feel encouraged to explore and express themselves through art.</li><li>Collaborate with Education staff to ensure lessons align with program goals and participant needs.</li><li>Track use of class materials and manage the provided supply budget effectively.</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Experience teaching art to adults with special needs or diverse abilities (preferred).</li><li>Knowledge of adaptive art practices and inclusive teaching strategies.</li><li>Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills.</li><li>Ability to connect lessons with artworks from the museum&rsquo;s collection and exhibitions.</li><li>Dependable, organized, and able to create a positive, supportive learning environment.</li></ul>Schedule &amp; CompensationThree six-week sessions held throughout the year. Class meets 10:00 am&ndash;12:00 pm, with an additional paid hour each week for planning. Hourly rate: $40 (instruction and planning).
