Job Title: VA Nexus Letter Medical ConsultantLocation: Remote Employment Type: Contract / Part-Time / Potential for Full-TimeDescription:We are seeking a qualified and compassionate VA Nexus Letter Medical Consultant who are licensed in either Ohio or Pennsylvania to join our team. In this role, you will help veterans across the country by writing detailed, evidence-based nexus letters that clearly connect their current medical conditions to their military service&mdash;an essential part of the VA disability claims process.As a mission-driven organization founded by veterans and physicians, Xterra Health is committed to delivering the most affordable, timely, and effective medical documentation in the VA disability space.Key Responsibilities:<ul><li>Conduct structured, one-on-one phone or video consultations with veterans to gather detailed information about their medical history, service-connected injuries, and current symptomatology.</li><li>Thoroughly review and interpret service treatment records, private medical records, VA records, diagnostic tests, and any other relevant documentation.</li><li>Draft clear, comprehensive, and medically sound nexus letters that establish the connection between a veteran&rsquo;s condition(s) and their military service.</li><li>Ensure all documentation meets VA requirements and supports the veteran&rsquo;s disability claim effectively.</li></ul>Qualifications (Must have at least one of the following):<ul><li>MD (Doctor of Medicine)</li><li>DO (Doctor of Osteopathy)</li><li>NP (Nurse Practitioner)</li><li>PA (Physician Assistant)</li><li>Must hold an active license in either Ohio or Pennsylvania</li></ul>Preferred Skills &amp; Experience:<ul><li>Excellent clinical reasoning skills.</li><li>Strong understanding of VA disability claims, service connection types (direct, secondary, aggravated), and CFR guidelines.</li><li>Strong attention to detail and ability to explain complex medical concepts clearly to non-medical audiences.</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills.</li><li>Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases efficiently.</li><li>Strong desire to serve the veteran community.</li><li>No prior nexus letter or IMO (independent medical opinion) experience required- we provide full training to ensure consistency and adherence to our high documentation standards</li><li>All candidates selected for employment will undergo a background check as part of the hiring process. Job Title: VA Nexus Letter Psychiatric Consultant Location: Remote Employment Type: Contract / Part-Time / Potential for Full-TimeDescription: Xterra Health is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled psychiatrist (MD/DO), licensed in either Ohio or Pennsylvania, to join our team as a VA Nexus Letter Psychiatric Consultant. In this role, you will apply your clinical expertise in mental health to conduct thorough evaluations and develop evidence-based nexus letters that help veterans secure the disability benefits they deserve. Your work will directly support veterans living with PTSD, depression, anxiety disorders, trauma-related conditions, and other psychiatric diagnoses connected to military service.As a mission-driven organization founded by veterans and physicians, Xterra Health is committed to delivering the most accurate, timely, and veteran-centered medical documentation in the VA disability space.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Conduct structured 1:1 phone or video consultations to assess psychiatric history, trauma exposure, service-related stressors, and current symptomatology.</li><li>Review service treatment records, VA and private mental health records, diagnostic reports, psychological evaluations, and relevant collateral information.</li><li>Draft clear, comprehensive, and diagnostically sound psychiatric nexus letters that establish a service connection (direct, secondary, or aggravated).</li><li>Apply DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria and evidence-based psychiatric principles to support conclusions.</li><li>Ensure all documentation meets VA standards and effectively supports the veteran&rsquo;s disability claim.</li><li>Collaborate with a supportive clinical team dedicated to quality, ethics, and veteran advocacy.</li></ul>Required Qualifications<ul><li>MD or DO in Psychiatry (board-certified or board-eligible).</li><li>Active and unrestricted medical license in either Ohio or Pennsylvania</li></ul>Preferred Skills &amp; Experience<ul><li>Strong understanding of psychiatric conditions common among veterans (e.g., PTSD, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, sleep disorders).</li><li>Familiarity with VA disability claims, service connection types, and CFR guidelines (preferred but not required&mdash;full training provided).</li><li>Excellent clinical reasoning and diagnostic formulation skills.</li><li>Outstanding written communication skills, especially in translating complex psychiatric concepts for non-medical audiences.</li><li>High attention to detail and ability to manage cases independently.</li><li>A genuine desire to serve and advocate for the veteran community.</li><li>Military veteran status is highly preferred but not required.</li></ul>Additional InformationAll candidates will undergo a background check as part of the hiring process.
