Job Duties

Facilities Management's professional, customer oriented trades people, mechanics, architects, engineers, and others are well-trained to support the NSU community. The Department of Facilities Management is seeking a dynamic and qualified Compliance Safety Officer. The Compliance Safety Officer is responsible for training all new and current employees on most up to date safety policies and procedures. Conduct scheduled and unscheduled site visits to ensure all crews are operating in a manner that is consistent with the current safety guidelines and to identify safety issues that require further training. Investigating accidents and near misses to determine how and why an accident happened and how it could be prevented. Notifying management of safety or procedure violations and makes recommendations for correction. Ability to complete and manage claims for worker’s compensation and general liability. Apply applicable standards (OSHA, etc.) knowledge to ensure recommended activity for compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

A High School Diploma and valid Driver's license is required. Attention to detail, the ability to learn new software and technology is required. Additionally, the selected candidate will professionally interact with students, staff, faculty, customers, vendors and members of the NSU community. Knowledge of OSHA regulations. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written). Strong interpersonal, planning and organizational skills. Excellent problem-solving skills. Understanding risk evaluation and practical application of OSHA compliance regulations.

Additional Considerations

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements; the preferred candidate will have 3 years of experience performing health and safety audits and inspections. Knowledge of federal and state occupational safety and environmental protection requirements. Prior training in emergency response, hazardous materials and waste management is a plus. An Associate or Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Safety; or other related fields is desirable. An equivalent combination of education, training and professional experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
