Job Description:

Our Legal Department works cross-functionally to support business operations, ensure compliance with complex regulatory frameworks, and manage legal risk. We are seeking a motivated 1L law student to join us for a summer internship where you’ll gain meaningful exposure to in-house legal practice and trade compliance.

As a 1L Summer Legal & Trade Intern , you will work closely with attorneys and trade compliance professionals to support legal operations, compliance initiatives, and documentation management. You’ll gain first-hand experience in how a corporate legal team partners with internal business units to manage legal and regulatory issues. This is an excellent opportunity to build foundational legal skills in a dynamic corporate environment.

Key Responsibilities:

You will assist with a variety of legal, trade, and administrative tasks, which may include:

Legal Support

  • Conduct basic legal research and draft summary memos on relevant legal and regulatory topics.

  • Conduct market research on various legal tools and deliver assessment on their performance.

  • Assist with review and organization of legal documents, contracts, and compliance materials.

  • Help prepare internal legal correspondence and routine legal documentation.

  • Attend legal and trade compliance team meetings and take detailed notes on action items to be distributed to the teams.

Trade Compliance Assistance

  • Support trade compliance efforts related to import/export, sanctions, and regulatory adherence.

  • Help organize and maintain trade compliance files and internal records.

  • Assist with basic research on international trade laws and compliance requirements.

  • Help write customs and export policies and procedures.

Administrative & Project Tasks

  • Upload, maintain and organize digital files on internal systems.

  • Assist with legal department projects and special assignments as needed.

  • Provide administrative support such as scheduling, filing, and document tracking.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled as a 1L law student in good academic standing at an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Strong academic performance (3.0 GPA or higher preferred).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational ability.

  • Demonstrated interest in corporate law, compliance, or regulatory work.

  • Prior exposure to basic legal research tools and interest in learning more about AI toolkits.

Internship Duration: Summer 2026 (6-8 weeks)

Location: Remote
Program Type: Full-Time (40 hrs/week)

Pay Range:

$26.30 - $34.55

Pay Range Explained:

This role in Portland, Oregon pays between $26.30 and $34.55 per hour, depending on your experience, skills, and background. Pay may vary in other locations. We offer a full benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, a 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), and paid time off. You’ll also be eligible for quarterly profit-sharing bonuses and flexible spending or savings accounts.
