2025 Resource Lab Monitor in DESIGN

Job Purpose
Allow for open access hours and access to vital resource room used heavily by students.

Duties and Responsibilities
Open lab at posted time in morning; visually inspect computer workstations and general lab environment, noting irregularities or potential problem areas. Report these to supervisor.

Remain at central desk performing clerical and materials shelving duties as directed by the supervisor. Account for student photocopies, printouts. Equipment and resource check-in/ check-out. Take lab census at regular intervals and record. “Typical” maintenance and problem-solving for peripheral equipment (toner/ cartridge replacement, refilling paper, resolving paper jams and equipment ‘snags’) as able. Occasional user-support (advising users as to proper settings or procedures to accomplish tasks). Other appropriate duties as directed by the lab supervisor.

Close lab at night and assuring condition of equipment, overall condition of lab (picking up trash, pushing in chairs), noting any areas of concern and reporting to facility supervisor.

Qualifications
Enrolled student at Winthrop University. Work-study student strongly encouraged. Dependability, reliability, attention to details. Customer service skills. Basic technical knowledge in use of Mac computers and software and peripherals. Basic problem-solving skills. Responsibility and initiative to assure safety and security and smooth running of a heavily-used production facility. Ability to complete work and projects despite frequent interruptions.

Preferred Skills
Dependability, reliability are paramount. The preferred applicant will ideally have experience in Design/ Fine Arts content. Fluent in Mac computer and application use. Technical fluency/ perception to diagnose equipment problems and address them (either by oneself, or via reporting upward to supervisor). Understanding (ability to learn) resource cataloging and organization system. Overall initiative and proactive responsibility for lab resources and equipment; discretion to report significant problems/ issues/ developments in lab environment to lab supervisor.
