Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Library Media Specialist
JOB GOAL: To ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information by providing resources which extend and enhance classroom instruction.
REPORTS TO: Principal
SUPERVISES: Students, designated support personnel assigned to media center
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify, select or develop short and long-range goals and objectives for the library media program based on student, faculty, and curriculum needs.
- Collaborate with teachers and instructional leaders with regard to integration of library media/information skills into the school program.
- Develop schedules and organize resources to allow ready access to information and services.
- Review the School Improvement Plan and seek to acquire resources designed to enhance learning which is consistent with the needs of students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures necessary for the efficient and effective operation of the library media center.
- Administer the library media center budget.
- Maintain complete and accurate records as required by law, system policy, and administrative regulations.
- Coordinate the selection and acquisition of library media equipment.
- Provide for use of current technologies.
- Facilitate the use, maintenance, repair, and inventory of all library media center materials and equipment.
- Solicit ongoing feedback from staff regarding the availability, use, and impact of library medial materials.
- Establish a system of records that will provide an appropriate database for evaluating the use and distribution of the library media collection and supporting materials and equipment.
