Experience 3-5 years successful teaching experience working with ELLs
POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE
To be responsible for teaching the ESL/ELA Component of the Bilingual Transitional Late-Exit Program Model grades K-6th and provide explicit ESL instruction to ESL students. In addition, they will be responsible for developing English
Language proficiency, academic language development, and high academic achievement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Instructional Management
1. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, MISD school board
policies, and administrative regulations.
2. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of ELLs.
3. Cooperate with members of the Bilingual/ESL Department in planning and implementing instructional goals,
objectives, and methods in accordance with federal, state and district requirements for ELLs.
4. Provide explicit, systematic instruction supported by advanced-progress monitoring technology
to match ELLs with appropriate materials, monitor progress, and use data effectively to make instructional
decisions.
5. Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process (including software).
Student Growth and Development
6. Assist teachers in selection, analyzing, and improving methods of instruction for ELLs
7. Analyze the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
8. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district
School/Organization Climate
9. Demonstrate a positive attitude on learning and communicate high expectations of all students to campus
personnel.
10. Provide students with the necessary support to successfully implement current effective instructional strategies.
School/Organization Improvement
11. Assist in disaggregating data to improve instruction.
12. Implement intervention strategies and differentiate instruction to meet student needs
School/Community Relations
13. Interact and communicate with parents effectively.
14. Collaborate in planning with teachers to integrate second-language acquisition with quality content-area
instruction to ensure that ELLs acquire social and academic language proficiency in English.
Professional Growth and Development
15. Participate in the district professional development program.
16. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
17. Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the
Texas Education Agency code of ethics.
18. Interact and communicate with parents effectively.
Policy Implementation
19. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for teachers.
20. Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.
Other Duties
21. Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary for job effectiveness.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of ESL methodologies, bilingual transferable skills from Native Language to English, Second language
acquisition
Knowledge of effective teaching techniques
General knowledge of how to work well with a diverse population
Knowledge of English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS)
Knowledge of how to identify the ELLs English Language proficiency levels in the domains of listening, speaking,reading, and writing in accordance with the proficiency level descriptors for beginning, intermediate, advanced and
advanced high. (TELPAS)

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom
equipment.
