TEACHER – SPECIAL EDUCATION—POST-SECONDARY TRANSITION SKILLS

North Kansas City offers a one-time $5000 critical needs bonus after 90 days of completed employment for Special Education vacancies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Missouri certification in Special Education
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience at the secondary level, preferred.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:

The Special Education Teacher functions under the direct supervision of the Director of Special Education.

JOB GOAL: To provide specialized instruction and coordination of special education

and transition services for individual students with disabilities.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as a case manager in the development and implementation of Individual Education

Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.

  • Provides specialized instruction to students with disabilities with an emphasis on post-secondary transition skills and community-based learning.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders to design and implement post-secondary transition services for students with disabilities.
  • Maintains records regarding individual student progress toward IEP goals and objectives, services

and accommodations provided, parent contacts, notices, and other documentation as required by

the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations and the Director of Special Education.

  • Participates in student eligibility evaluations and re-evaluations.
  • Participates in the development of an annual budget request for instructional materials needed to

implement and support IEPs for students with disabilities.

  • Initiates communication with parents of students with disabilities on a regular basis.
  • Uses technology effectively to implement instruction and to manage documentation requirements.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Compliance with good safety practices.
  • Compliance with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
Other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear, and speak and must have close moderate, and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is consistent with a typical office/school environment.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board Of Education. Benefits according to Board policies.

CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Teacher Evaluation process.
