2026-27 SY Chief Financial Officer

240 Day Position

Job Goal: To ensure that finance functions and activities are operated in an efficient and effective manner and to account for all system funds in accordance with all applicable regulations and laws.

Reports To: Superintendent of Schools

Supervises: Finance Department

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelors of Business Administration or higher with an emphasis in Accounting.

2. Minimum five (5) years experience in government/school finance and management in a public school setting in Georgia with at least three (3) years at a Director level position or higher preferred.

3. Ability to prepare and interpret budgets and financial reports.

4. Ability to provide financial information for decision making.

5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prompt and regular attendance.
  • Supervises overall financial operation of the school district.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding financial policies and procedures.
  • Provides complete and accurate records and statistical reports for the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, and Central Office administrative staff as appropriate.
  • Maintains a continuous and internal auditing program for all funds and provide information as needed for annual financial and management audits to include the preparation of the annual required financial statements presented for audit.
  • Oversees requests for funds for state and federal grants.
  • Reviews SPLOST and Capital Projects reports and monitors receipts and expenditures.
  • Participates in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to assignment.
  • Manages cash balances/cash flows for investments.
  • Monitors and approves the collection and expenditure of funds in compliance with local, State and Federal requirements.
  • Develops and monitors the annual budget for the district.
  • Provides monthly financial reports to the Board of Education.
  • Assists the Superintendent with short, medium and long-term financial planning.
  • Assists administrators in planning and developing procedures and goals for budget and purchasing.
  • Maintains files of original and amended budgets for all programs.
  • Maintains schedule for required reports for all funds and prepare reports to meet scheduled reporting dates.
  • Coordinates payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, benefits, general ledger staff and school account functions and evaluates related central office level staff.
  • Attends regular and called meetings of the Board as directed by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Serves on committees as requested.
  • Compiles information from County Assessor’s Office in the determination of the district’s annual mileage rate.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

Physical Requirements:

Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities including:

Light Work: Exerting 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.

Terms of Employment:

Salary shall be paid consistent on the System’s approved salary schedule. Length of work year and hours of employment shall be established by the system.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Superintendent.
