Job Title: Custodian
Reports to: Building Principal
Terms of Employment: 255-Day Calendar/Salary is commensurate with verifiable years of experience.
Job Goal: The Custodian performs custodial maintenance and cleaning within the building and light grounds keeping on the building property.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Work experience as a custodian, familiarity with chemical safety, floor cleaning/care procedures and the use of appropriate machinery. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Must be a self starter and reliable.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prompt and regular attendance.
- Exhibits a professional attitude and demeanor at all times in working with administrators, fellow employees, parents, students and other stakeholders.
- Assure that the standards set for building cleanliness, basic maintenance and safety procedures are all met and maintained by the custodial staff.
- Actively participate in the daily cleaning maintenance activities required for the facility.
- Areas of cleaning include: floors, tile and carpet, windows, walls, classrooms, common areas, gym, lunchroom, offices, outside grounds areas, and others as assigned.
- Utilizes various equipment for scrubbing, vacuuming, buffing, and waxing floors.
- Prepare for and cleans up after events scheduled for the facility/grounds during the day and/or night.
- Monitors uses, storage, and inventory of supplies and reports needs to lead custodian.
- Keep records of periodic checks of equipment, fire extinguishers, playground items, etc.
- Assists the building principal/supervisor in general security of the building and fire safety.
- Preforms emergency cleaning as necessary.
- Perform various duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force as needed move objects. Able to walk, stand, crouch, and climb ladders or perform various types of manual labor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the System’s approved salary schedule. Length of work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the System.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
