The State Fair of Texas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with proceeds helping to preserve and improve our home, Fair Park; underwrite museums, community initiatives, and scholarship programs to support students throughout the Lone Star State pursuing higher education; and help improve State Fair operations.
SUMMARY
The State Fair of Texas (SFT) is seeking a high energy and personable seasonal IT Specialist to help end users and the IT Manager with pre-fair, during and post-fair IT related tasks. The seasonal IT Specialist will be proficient in IT troubleshooting and repairing hardware and peripherals.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Resolve Tier I and Tier II hardware and network connectivity issues.
- Assist users with software and printing issues.
- Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot computer and network hardware, peripheral devices, printing/scanning devices, presentation equipment, software, and other products to deliver required desktop service levels.
- With assistance, plug in aerial Ethernet Cables, to switches, ticket booths, gates, and scanning channels.
EXPERIENCE and TRAINING GUIDELINES
Any combination of experience that would likely provide the required knowledge is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Understanding and alignment with the core values of the State Fair of Texas.
- Excellent knowledge of PC and desktop hardware. Excellent knowledge of PC internal components.
- Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience. Working technical knowledge of current protocols, operating systems, and standards.
- Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma or higher level of education.
- Previous work experience in livestock.
- Oral and written communication.
License or Certificate:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate Texas driver's license.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED and EXERCISED
- Reports to Manager of IT
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions:
Working outdoors in various weather conditions and on uneven and/or slippery surfaces, as necessary, especially during Fair time and special events.
Physical Conditions:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for
- Remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
- Moving short and long distances to access office supplies, meet guests, perform duties within Fairgrounds, etc.
- Verbally communicate with both internal and external contacts.
- Occasionally lift objects no more than 25 pounds unassisted.
Work Schedules:
- As a seasonal hire you will have a defined employment time period, starting on or around July 1st and ending on or around October 24th.
- Pre-fair and post-fair, you will primarily be working during standard business hours, ranging from 6-12 hours, 5-7 days a week, as needed.
- During fair, you will be working morning shifts (starting as early as 8am and ending as late as 6pm), and\or night shifts (starting as early as 1pm and ending as late as 11pm, 7 days a week.
