2026 Summer Intern - Sports, Visitation and Entertainment (Marketing)

The Chesterfield Sports, Visitation and Entertainment (SV&E) Department promotes Chesterfield as a premier destination through the Experience Chesterfield brand, attracting visitors, boosting the economy, and enhancing quality of life for residents with vibrant amenities and events. Through Play Chesterfield, the department champions local sports by partnering with leagues and organizations to grow grassroots programs and create opportunities to host major regional, national, and international events—delivering memorable experiences for both the community and visitors.

What you will learn:
The Marketing & Communications Intern will support Chesterfield’s Sports, Visitation, & Entertainment team by assisting with social media, content creation, and email marketing efforts. Working closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager, the intern will help develop and schedule social media posts, contribute ideas to content planning, create simple graphics, and assist with the execution of weekly and monthly email campaigns. This hands-on role offers valuable experience in digital marketing, brand communication, and content design while providing exposure to real-world marketing workflows in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Assist with creating engaging content for Experience Chesterfield social media channels (Facebook and Instagram) and website to help increase awareness and audience engagement. Support the Marketing & Communications Manager in planning and organizing content, including contributing ideas for the content calendar and helping draft email newsletter content. Help implement basic social media strategies by monitoring trends, suggesting post ideas, and contributing to efforts that grow our online community. Assist the Marketing & Communications Manager with weekly and monthly email marketing campaigns by gathering content, drafting copy, and helping prepare email layouts. Use of basic graphic design tools such as Canva (and, if applicable, Adobe Photoshop or Premiere) to help create simple graphics, flyers, or digital assets. Examples of previous design work are encouraged but not required. Perform other work as required.

The Chesterfield Experience:
As an intern in Chesterfield County, you will have an opportunity to meet with county leaders, collaborate with your peers, attend training seminars, and participate in team building exercises to complement what you will be learning in the professional work environment provided by the Sports, Visitation and Entertainment department.

Internship Requirements and Eligibility

  • To be considered for the Internship Program, students must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.8. Students accepted into the Internship Program must be able to participate in the full 10-week program, exhibit a commitment to public service, and a genuine interest in learning about public administration.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
  • Strong writing and communication skills: Ability to draft clear, engaging captions, emails, and short-form content with attention to grammar and tone.
  • Interest in marketing, communications, or digital media - Coursework or prior exposure is helpful but not required.
  • Basic graphic design skills - Comfort using Canva; familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Premiere is a plus but not required.
  • Creativity and an eye for visual content - Ability to identify appealing photos, layouts, and social media trends to support brand aesthetic.
  • Organizational and time-management skills - Ability to help schedule content, manage deadlines, and handle multiple small tasks at once.
  • Willingness to learn new tools and processes - Openness to receiving feedback, adopting workflows, and learning how to work within a brand style.
  • Attention to detail - Ensures posts are accurate, visually consistent, and in line with messaging.
  • Basic understanding of email marketing platforms (preferred) - Experience with tools like Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar is a bonus but not required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively - Comfort working closely with the Marketing & Communications Manager and other team members.

Program Dates

The Summer 2026 program will be held from May 26, 2026, to July 30, 2026.

  • Applications are accepted until February 15, 2026.
  • Candidates will be notified of selection by April 3, 2026.

Program Pay Rates

Undergraduate-$17.00/hour; Graduate-$19.00/hour
