This is an AmeriCorps/Washington Reading Corps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. Naches Valley School District is a small rural school district in central Washington. Many students face barriers related to poverty, learning differences, and limited access to early academic intervention. The member will improve foundational reading and writing skills for K–4 students through small-group and one-on-one literacy tutoring focused on foundational reading and writing skills. Members will help students strengthen literacy development, improve academic confidence, and increase school success while gaining experience in education, intervention strategies, and youth development. Members will collaborate with teachers and school staff, monitor student progress, and support literacy engagement activities. We expect to begin rolling review of applications and interviews in late July. Monthly stipend amount: $2,380.
Member Duties : The Literacy Tutor will help improve foundational reading and writing skills for K – 4 students. They will provide small-group and one-on-one literacy tutoring: support writing instruction; monitor student progress; collaborate with school staff regarding student needs; support literacy engagement activities.
