MISSION

Global Preparatory Academy develops compassionate global leaders through a bilingual/bi-literate education program that focuses on hands-on and cultural learning opportunities.


SUMMARY

Global Prep Academy, a dual language school that connects students from diverse linguistic backgrounds and educates them together in a highly rigorous, engaging and nurturing environment. Using both English and Spanish to instruct students in all core content areas, students will develop high levels of bilingualism and biliteracy, as well as a deep value and understanding of other cultures. As citizens in a global world, students at Global Prep gain limitless access to other cultures through bilingualism and instruction, which emphasizes critical thinking using global perspectives and experiential learning. Through two-way immersion (TWI) in English and Spanish, students will affirm the values of their own cultures while acquiring an understanding and appreciation of other cultures. Our students attain bilingualism in a natural process through everyday conversation and content instruction. We are committed to providing relevant instruction pushing our students to be critical thinkers and change makers in an ever-changing world.


POSITION SUMMARY

The person in this position is responsible for providing direct instruction in media literacy, library sciences, and digital citizenship for grades kindergarten through fifth grade using the Indiana Academic Standards and best practices in library and information sciences. The person in this position will be responsible for creating an adaptive and conducive learning environment that promotes literacy, research skills, and a love of reading across content areas.


This role also manages the school library/media center, supports classroom teachers with instructional resources, and ensures students develop strong information literacy, technology use, and research skills. Ideal candidates possess experience in media or library services in urban education; an understanding of trauma- and brain-centered learning; and a growth mindset that will promote student achievement and a culture of reading and inquiry.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and execute lessons that have clear objectives communicated to students related to reading, research, digital citizenship, and media literacy.
  • Develop and maintain a balanced library and media program that supports student learning and literacy development across grade levels.
  • Organize daily library operations, including circulation, inventory management, and resource accessibility for students and staff.
  • Teach students how to locate, evaluate, and responsibly use information from print and digital sources.
  • Maintain care and responsibility for school-owned library materials, technology, and media equipment to prevent loss or misuse.
  • Collaborate with teachers to support classroom instruction through resource selection, research support, and literacy integration.
  • Promote a culture of reading through book talks, literacy events, reading challenges, and school-wide literacy initiatives.
  • Set and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
  • Support students in developing digital citizenship skills, including responsible technology use and online safety.
  • Assist with school-wide showcases, literacy nights, and celebrations that highlight student learning and reading engagement.
  • Meet with parents to discuss student progress and provide guidance on reading development and library use.
  • Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.
  • Attend school events and functions as required.
  • Contribute to the overall safety and well-being of our students through following school-wide structures and staff roles and responsibilities.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Works primarily in an elementary classroom setting within a dual language school community.
  • Responsibilities may involve standing, walking, and active supervision of students throughout the school day.
  • Requires consistent attendance and professional engagement due to daily interaction with scholars.


REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

The successful candidate must demonstrate knowledge and implementation of library science practices, media literacy instruction, and literacy development strategies appropriate for elementary and middle school students.


Global Preparatory Academy teachers use the gradual release lesson delivery framework.


The media/library educator demonstrates the ability to:

  • Provide positive behavioral support to students in group and individual settings
  • Support student literacy and research development
  • Manage library systems, materials, and technology resources
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers and school leaders
  • Promote a culture of reading, inquiry, and responsible technology use
  • Work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school-based staff, students, parents, and community members
  • Overall, the media/library educator possesses excellent human relations skills and a working knowledge of the English language in written and verbal form.


EXPERIENCE & BACKGROUND

  • Must hold or be eligible for a valid Indiana Professional Teaching License.
  • Experience in urban education settings is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply, though instruction for this role is delivered in English.
