The AmeriCorps VISTA member will build capacity within Yavapai College's Student Engagement and Leadership (SEL) department by expanding and strengthening student leadership and engagement systems, with a primary focus on the Students of Leadership (SOL) program and low-income students. The VISTA will develop sustainable infrastructure, tools, and partnerships that increase access to leadership development, student engagement, and co-curricular learning opportunities. Through this work, the project will enhance students' leadership skills, sense of belonging, and connection to campus, improving retention, persistence, and long-term student success for students of all income levels, creating equal access for individuals experiencing poverty.
Member Duties : The VISTA will expand and strengthen Yavapai College's Student Engagement and Leadership (SEL) with a particular focus on increasing accessibility for low-income students: 1) Assess and strengthen current systems associated with SEL programming, identifying gaps in access and participation through metrics like student engagement and program outcomes; compile data into a baseline report that will be provided to leadership. 2) Develop refined program infrastructure for Students of Leadership (SOL) and other leadership programs on campus; build workflows, standard operating procedures, and toolkits to assist with future implementation of the infrastructure. Additionally, research micro-credential pathways for leadership development. 3) Create infrastructure for gathering data, conducting assessments, and program sustainability. Design a system that tracks participation, engagement, and leadership outcomes; this system should be designed to last beyond the VISTA's year of service.
