Southern Specialties is looking for a detail-oriented Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll help ensure that every weld we produce meets the highest standards for quality, safety, and performance. Hours: Friday, Saturday, Sunday 6am - 6pm. They will receive 11.5% shift premium on all hours worked.
What You’ll Do
- Inspect welds visually and dimensionally to make sure they meet AWS, ASME, or other required standards.
- Review welding procedures and certifications for accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor welding operations to ensure proper techniques and safety practices are followed.
- Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) such as magnetic particle, dye penetrant, ultrasonic, or radiographic testing when needed.
- Keep clear, accurate inspection records and help identify and resolve quality issues.
- Work closely with the production team to fix welding problems and improve processes.
- Stay up to date with industry standards and best practices.
What We’re Looking For
- Certification: AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: 3–5 years in welding inspection or a related field.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW), metallurgy, and inspection techniques.
- Skills:
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Able to read blueprints and understand welding symbols.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Bonus Points For
- Experience with ASME Section IX, API standards, or ISO quality systems.
- Familiarity with inspection tools and software for reporting.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and data entry.

Generally, 95% of the normal work shift requires standing bending, squatting, and climbing while performing assembly work, inspecting work, machines, and checking assembly procedures.
Lifting of parts, weighting up to 50 pounds, from floor level, and carrying them 10 to 15 feet may be required. Lifting devices and team lifting should be used when possible. The job area requires moving of material and parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Parts must be lifted, pulled, pushed, and held in place, without benefit of material handling devices due to limited space and confined areas in and around machines.
