Position Overview

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.

AMS is seeking a data-driven and culturally responsive 5th Grade Science Teacher to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that builds strong scientific understanding and inquiry skills. This role focuses on preparing scholars for middle school science through hands-on exploration, critical thinking, and real-world application.

AMS teachers are collaborative, growth-minded professionals who believe all students can achieve at high levels.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Achievement

  • Deliver engaging, standards-aligned 5th grade science instruction using AMS curriculum and instructional frameworks.

  • Implement hands-on, inquiry-based lessons that promote scientific thinking and exploration.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

  • Use assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

  • Build foundational knowledge in life, physical, and earth sciences.

Collaboration & Professional Development

  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.

  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders to improve teaching practices.

  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and academic excellence.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and academic goals.

  • Lead parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home-school partnerships.

Scholar Culture & Support

  • Implement PBIS and proactive classroom management strategies.

  • Create a structured, positive, and engaging classroom environment.

  • Support student curiosity, independence, and accountability.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Demonstrate strong classroom management and instructional skills

  • Pass required background checks and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

  • Demonstrate commitment to serving Title I and multilingual communities

  • Show enthusiasm for STEM education and data-driven instruction

  • Demonstrate collaboration, initiative, and adaptability

Compensation & Benefits

AMS offers a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support professional growth and long-term career success.

  • Salary Range: $44,770 – $50,550 (DOE)
