JOB SUMMARY
This position guards the agencies personnel and property against assault, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry of facilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Primary Responsibilities:
- Monitors access the facility to ensure only authorized people enter.

Patrols the assigned areas within and outside the building.

Examine the physical site (doors, windows, gates, etc.) as well as individual’s behaviors.

Promptly write accurate observation logs and incident reports.

Manage the security camera system, ensuring appropriate camera coverage and record retention.

Activate and un-activate alarm systems.

Handle circumstances when an individual breaks a facility rule such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles.

Provide guidance to individuals in the event of a fire or emergency.

Assists with preparing identification badges for staff, clients, or others.

Participate in staff and supervisory meetings.

Identify and report opportunities to improve the quality of care, staff effectiveness, and participant satisfaction.

Satisfactory completion of mandatory trainings.

Additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
-
New York State Security Guard registration.
-
One (1) year experience in security or law enforcement
-
Experience in a behavioral health setting where individuals have mental illness or substance use disorders.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to explain safety procedures.

Ability to follow instructions, policies, and procedures.

Ability to clearly and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations with patients and employees.

Ability to add and subtract, estimate distance, height, and other relevant measurements.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in writing, oral, or diagram form.

Ability to deal with unexpected or crisis situations.

Ability to remain calm under stress.

Must be well-organized, courteous, alert, and observant.

Must have strong customer service skills.

Strong de-escalation skills, including the ability to control own emotions and reactions in a positive way.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to walk the facility premises in various weather conditions.

Physically capable of reacting swiftly in emergency situations.

Good vision and hearing are essential for monitoring surveillance equipment, observing activities, and responding to alarms.

Ability to speak and understand Spanish is desired.
