Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated middle school English teacher to join our team for afternoon classes. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching English to middle school students and possess a talent for delivering engaging, clear, and well-structured lessons. We are looking for an enthusiastic educator who is committed to creating a supportive and stimulating classroom environment that promotes strong literacy, critical thinking, and effective communication skills.
This position involves 8-12 hours of teaching each week, Monday through Thursday, during our afternoon hours of 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. For the right candidate, there is an additional opportunity to work as a permanent substitute during the full afternoon schedule, providing up to 12 total hours per week.
Responsibilities:
1. Curriculum Delivery:
-Plan and deliver engaging and interactive English lessons tailored to meet the needs of students in the middle grades, with a focus on reading, writing, grammar, and critical thinking.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Incorporate hands-on activities, group work, and technology to enhance learning experiences.
2. Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Assess student understanding and progress through regular formative and summative assessments.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to support their academic growth and development.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assignments, and assessments.
3. Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Implement clear and consistent behavioral expectations and routines.
- Address any behavioral issues promptly and effectively, promoting respect and cooperation among students.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with the General Studies Principal to align curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, academic achievements, and any concerns.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other school activities as required.
5. Recess Supervision:
- Supervise students during recess periods, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Promote positive social interactions and facilitate cooperative play among students.
- Respond to any incidents or emergencies promptly and appropriately.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or relevant field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification/license preferred.
- Strong knowledge of curriculum standards and best practices in education.
- Excellent classroom management skills and ability to create a positive learning environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and collaboration.
