911 Public Safety Dispatcher
Hancock County Government is seeking full time Dispatcher(s) to fill a vacancy in our Regional Communications Center (RCC).
The Dispatcher assists the public by taking both emergency and non-emergency calls for service to dispatch and support responding fire departments, emergency medical services or law enforcement agencies in the county as required. This position requires shift work with scheduled and occasional short notice overtime, and includes overnights, weekends and holidays. The position will be on a 48/36 hour rotating basis after training. The position receives full benefits.
Required: High School diploma or equivalent, valid Driver’s license, computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office/Word, knowledge of county and towns geographic layout. Must successfully complete the following training within six months of employment: Certified Terminal Operator, Emergency Medical Dispatch, Emergency Fire Dispatch, Next Gen 911 Operator, Emergency Telecommunicator. Must possess excellent communication skills and ability to remain calm and maintain control in stressful situations.
Preferred: Minimum one (1) year in the public safety field and previous experience in radio communications desired. Applicants without previous experience must be able to obtain all required certifications for continued employment within the first six months of employment.
The starting rate of pay for the Dispatcher position is $ 28.19 and additional compensation may be given consideration with relevant experience. Additional overtime earnings opportunities.
Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Hancock County background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contract provisions.
