Key Responsibilities
- Installation: Install new HVAC systems, including ductwork, refrigerant lines, and electrical components, following manufacturer specifications and local building codes.
- Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance on A/C and refrigeration systems to ensure optimal performance. This includes cleaning filters, checking refrigerant levels, and inspecting electrical connections.
- Repair & Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults in HVAC systems. This involves using diagnostic tools to pinpoint issues and replacing or repairing defective parts.
- Safety: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, particularly when working with high-voltage electricity, pressurized refrigerants, and heavy equipment.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all service and maintenance work performed, including parts used and hours worked.
- Customer Service: Communicate effectively with customers, explaining the nature of the problem, the repair process, and providing estimates for work.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including central air, split systems, heat pumps, and refrigeration units.
- Certifications: EPA certification for handling refrigerants is often required. Other relevant certifications, such as NATE, are a plus.
- Experience: Proven experience as an A/C technician or in a related field.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve complex issues.
