Job Title: ACA Compliance Officer

Position Summary

The ACA Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring the organization adheres to all requirements under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This role oversees compliance strategy, audits, reporting, and communication related to health benefits, employee eligibility, and federal filings. The ACA Compliance Officer serves as the primary subject-matter expert on ACA regulations and works closely with HR, payroll, benefits administration, and external partners to maintain compliance and reduce organizational risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and interpret ACA regulations, updates, and compliance requirements at the federal and state levels.
  • Oversee ACA reporting processes, including Forms 1094/1095 preparation, review, and submission.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of employee eligibility, measurement periods, and variable-hour employee statuses.
  • Coordinate with HR, payroll, and benefits teams to ensure data integrity and proper documentation.
  • Conduct regular internal audits to identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain ACA compliance systems, software, and vendor relationships.
  • Develop and implement compliance policies, procedures, and training for internal staff.
  • Respond to IRS inquiries, penalty notices, and information requests.
  • Provide guidance to leadership on ACA risks, trends, and compliance strategies.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding ACA requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Compliance, Healthcare Administration, or related field (required).
  • 3+ years of experience in ACA compliance, benefits administration, or similar regulatory role.
  • Strong knowledge of ACA laws, IRS reporting requirements, and employer mandate rules.
  • Experience with HRIS, payroll, and benefits administration systems.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience responding to IRS Letter 226J or ACA penalty notices.
  • Prior work with ACA compliance software (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, UKG, Benefitfocus).
  • Certification in compliance or benefits administration (CEBS, CHRS, SHRM-CP/SCP, etc.).

Work Environment

  • Full-time position with standard business hours.
  • May require collaboration across departments and coordination with remote team members.
  • Occasional training or regulatory update meetings.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
