Academic Coach/Tutor - Part-Time

Job Overview
TM Educational Services, Inc. is looking for a thoughtful, skilled Academic Coach to support students across a range of ages and academic needs, from early learners developing foundational reading skills to middle and high school students building stronger comprehension, writing, and executive functioning skills.

This is not traditional tutoring.

Our work focuses on helping students develop stronger learning habits, improve how they approach academic tasks, and build independence over time. Students we work with may need support in multiple areas, including early literacy, reading comprehension, writing, organization, attention, and follow-through.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working with a wide range of learners and can adjust their approach based on each student’s individual needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide 1:1 or small group academic support across areas such as early reading, comprehension, and writing
  • Support students with executive functioning skills, including planning, organization, and task initiation
  • Adapt instruction for students at different ages and ability levels
  • Guide students through academic work while encouraging independence and problem-solving
  • Facilitate structured work sessions focused on productivity and follow-through
  • Track student progress and maintain clear session notes
  • Communicate with families in a clear and professional manner
  • Collaborate with the Director on student goals and instructional approach

What We’re Looking For

We value a thoughtful and student-centered approach. Building trust with students and creating a positive, engaging environment where they feel capable and supported is an important part of this work.

  • Experience working with students across a range of ages (early elementary through high school preferred)
  • Confidence supporting early reading development as well as older students with comprehension and writing
  • Strong communication skills, especially when explaining student needs and progress
  • Ability to work with a range of learners with varying academic and organizational needs
  • Ability to guide students without over-directing or completing work for them, while encouraging independence and problem-solving
  • Organized, reliable, and able to follow a structured approach
  • Open to feedback and interested in continued growth

*Experience in a private school, learning center, or student support setting is strongly preferred.

*A graduate degree or advanced experience in education, counseling, or a related field is preferred.

Schedule & Hours

This is a part-time position with a gradual increase in hours based on enrollment and availability.

  • Many coaches begin with approximately 6–10 hours per week
  • Schedules may build over time, with some coaches reaching 10–15+ hours as their caseload develops
  • Growth in hours depends on enrollment, scheduling alignment, and performance
  • Most sessions take place after school hours, with some daytime opportunities depending on student needs

This role goes beyond supporting daily assignments. It is best suited for someone who can meet students where they are and help them build real skills and confidence over time.

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule
