Academic Success Coach, McNair Scholars
The University of Pittsburgh is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and student-centered professional for the role of Academic Success Coach on the Student Success Team in the Office of the Provost. Our mission is to “advocate and create opportunities for students by providing a system of academic support to boost retention, persistence, and graduation.”
Under the supervision of the PI/Project Director of the McNair Program, the Academic Success Coach will provide individual and group coaching, assessment, and evaluation to support academic success, a positive student experience, and satisfaction, ensuring student and program retention. They will create and maintain a network of contacts within and external to the University to facilitate student success opportunities. They will also promote and conduct success initiatives and engagement opportunities.
We are seeking an Academic Success Coach to facilitate and plan programming for TRIO McNair Scholars, one of the projects within the Student Success Hub portfolio. Collaboratively, Academic Success Coaches also facilitate university-wide academic sponsored activities, including, but not limited to the Student Academic Success Series and Welcome Week.
Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience serving at-promise student populations, including first-generation, lower-income college students, and/or exploratory students.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education, counseling, or related area is preferred. Three (3) years’ experience in advising, academic coaching, student success, retention, and/or support programs or related work required. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, participating in a team environment, giving presentations, and knowledge of MS tools is a plus. Previous experience with student success technology (e.g., EAB) a plus.
Provides individual and group coaching, assessment, and evaluation to support academic success, a positive student experience and satisfaction to ensure retention. Creates and maintains a network of contacts within and external to the University to facilitate student success opportunities. Promotes and conducts success initiatives and engagement opportunities.
May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
