- Receive patient samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) from collection points, couriers, or patients directly.
- Verify patient details on requisition forms and cross-check with specimen labels for accuracy.
- Accession specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) with complete and correct patient information.
- Assign unique identification numbers/barcodes to each specimen for tracking.
- Ensure proper labeling, sorting, and routing of specimens to relevant departments (biochemistry, hematology, histopathology, microbiology, etc.).
- Flag and document any discrepancies such as missing information, improperly labeled samples, or insufficient quantity.
- Maintain sample integrity by following appropriate storage and handling protocols.
- Communicate with phlebotomists, doctors, and collection centres for clarifications or missing details.
- Prioritize urgent/STAT samples for immediate processing.
- Maintain daily records of specimens received, rejected, or pending clarifications.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and comply with NABL/ISO quality standards.
- Assist in preparing reports and coordinating with technical teams for timely results.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and adherence to data protection regulations.
