General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Director of Student Accommodations and the Dean of Students, the Accommodations Resource Office Advisor provides services and support for students with documented disabilities under the ADA, as well as education to the campus community about disability services that are designed to foster continued professional development. This is a full-time position.
Essential Functions
- Provide services to students with disabilities to determine accommodation eligibility; plan and arrange for reasonable accommodations; prepare, document, and disseminate official letters of accommodation to instructors; and consult with instructors regarding classroom accessibility. Includes students enrolled in the Career Academy, area Learning Centers, SENCAP, Continuing Education, and DC Advantage
- Evaluate documentation to determine if a student is eligible for accommodation.
- Assist in the development and presentation of information for new students, visiting students, and staff/faculty regarding services available for students with disabilities.
- Participate in professional development activities with staff and faculty to enhance knowledge of current ADA rules, regulations, and practices.
- Serve as a campus consultant to students, staff, faculty, and community agencies regarding the needs and concerns of students with disabilities. Participate in events and engagement opportunities for prospective students, new students, and current students.
- Participate in or initiate interdepartmental and campus-wide committees related to student enrichment planning and institutional accreditation as requested.
- Engage in positive relationships and ongoing communication with faculty and staff regarding the needs of students with disabilities.
- Maintain appropriate records associated with student disability assessment and academic accommodations.
- Establish relationships with relevant local, state, and national agencies and groups.
- Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with other Student Affairs and Instructional units.
- Consult with medical professionals and other specialists regarding referrals for accessibility and disability evaluations and appropriate accommodations to determine eligibility.
- Monitor, adjust, and evaluate individual accommodation plans based on individual documentation, functional needs, and abilities.
- Comply with FERPA, College policies, and department guidelines
- Evaluate and interpret psychometric testing instruments for purposes of identifying students with disabilities, documenting diagnosis/accommodation,s and reporting data

Marginal Functions
- Participate in on-campus recruiting events, New Student Enrollment, Discovery Days, and New Student Orientation events, etc.
- Coordinates referrals for the delivery of College support services.
- Perform other related duties within the division/program as assigned.
- May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
- Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in operating a personal computer with the Windows Operating system and performing word processing with Word, spreadsheets with Excel, PowerPoint presentations, Outlook email, Outlook calendar, Access databases, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom. Computer proficiency that allows for the ability to learn new software and technology.
- Knowledge or ability to gain and maintain knowledge of policies and procedures used in an educational institution, and the ability to work as a productive member of a team using the established practices, procedures, and policies of the College.
- Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
- Ability to use basic computer skills.
- Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.
- The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Services, Counseling, Education, or related field.
- Two (2) years* of professional experience working in an educational or counseling setting with underrepresented students.
- Master’s Degree may be substituted for one (1) year of the required professional working experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Counseling, Education, Social Services, Psychology or related field
- Experience in post-secondary Disability Services, Mental Health, or related departments.
Benefits
SCC BEN Dollars – Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee’s paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College’s contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan – Group Retirement Account (GRA).
Schedule
Normal working hours for this full-time regular position are scheduled between 7:30 a.m.and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, requiring a minimum of a 40-hour work week, based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.
