Job Summary
We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Accountant to join our team at a leading retail furniture and furnishings store. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with Indian accounting standards and tax regulations (including GST and TDS), and supporting the overall financial health of the company. This role requires a strong understanding of Tally ERP 9, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage various accounting functions in a fast-paced retail environment.
Key Responsibilities **Financial Record Keeping:**
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger, journals, and subsidiary ledgers.
- Process daily financial transactions, including sales, purchases, receipts, and payments.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy between bank statements and company records.
- **Accounts Payable (AP):**
- Manage vendor invoices, process payments, and reconcile vendor statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of all payables, adhering to company policies and payment terms.
- **Accounts Receivable (AR):**
- Record customer payments, reconcile customer accounts, and follow up on outstanding receivables.
- Assist with customer billing and invoice generation as needed.
- **Tax Compliance (India Specific):**
- **GST Compliance:** Prepare and file monthly/quarterly GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B), reconcile GSTR-2A/2B with purchase records, and ensure accurate input tax credit (ITC) claims.
- **TDS Compliance:** Calculate, deduct, deposit, and file quarterly TDS returns (Form 24Q, 26Q, 27Q) as per Income Tax Act provisions. Issue TDS certificates (Form 16A) to vendors.
- Ensure compliance with other relevant Indian tax laws and regulations.
- **Inventory Accounting:**
- Maintain accurate inventory records, including costing, valuation, and movement of furniture and furnishings stock.
- Suggest in periodic inventory audits and stock valuation.
- **Payroll Processing:**
- Assist with basic payroll processing, including salary calculation, statutory deductions (PF, ESI, Professional Tax), and ensuring timely disbursement.
- Maintain accurate employee payroll records.
- **Fixed Asset Management:**
- Maintain fixed asset register, calculate depreciation, and ensure proper accounting for additions and disposals.
- **Financial Reporting & Analysis:**
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including Profit & Loss accounts and Balance Sheets.
- Provide financial data and reports to management for decision-making.
- Support internal and external audit processes by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- **Cash & Bank Management:**
- Manage petty cash, ensure proper documentation, and reconcile regularly.
- Monitor bank balances and assist in cash flow management.
- **Software Proficiency:**
- Proficiently use Tally ERP 9 for all accounting operations, including data entry, report generation, and reconciliation.
- **General:**
- Collaborate with store managers and other departments to ensure smooth financial operations.
- Stay updated with changes in Indian accounting standards, tax laws, and retail industry best practices.
Qualifications and Skills **Education:** Bachelor's degree in Commerce (B.Com) or Accounting from a recognized university.
- **Experience:** 3-5 years of proven experience as an Accountant, preferably in a retail, trading, or manufacturing environment in India.
- **Technical Skills:**
- **Mandatory:** Expert-level proficiency in Tally ERP 9.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- **Knowledge:**
- Thorough understanding of Indian accounting principles and standards.
- In-depth knowledge of GST (Goods and Services Tax) and TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) regulations in India.
- Familiarity with payroll processing and statutory compliances (PF, ESI, Professional Tax).
