Compensation:

  • Annual Salary Range: $50,918.40 - $54,901.60

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This Accountant position is located in Topeka, at the Eisenhower State Office Building, and is within the Bureau of Fiscal Services. This position provides cost accounting for KDOT projects, which includes providing reports, analytically reviewing expenditures for reimbursement from governmental entities, and reconciling expenditures within KDOT and Federal systems. This Accountant position also processes monthly reports to monitor contracts for Federal Aid projects.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Completes the final accounting for projects involving local and/or federal funds.
  • Monitors the status of contracts to ensure that KDOT is closing contracts and projects in a timely manner. This requires preparing and reviewing reports on contract data.
  • Reads and researches specific agreements between KDOT and various entities, analyzes the data, and assigns proper Department of Administration and KDOT financial coding for each agreement to ensure the expenditures are charged to the correct budget.
  • Prepares final payment vouchers to vendors based on KDOT audit certification, including evaluating transactions, agreements, and audit documents to ensure accurate final payments
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including participating in cross training to back up other positions within the Bureau.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in professional accounting/auditing work.
  • Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Personal computer experience.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and effectively manage an agency accounting task.
