Position Summary:</b><b>
</b></h2><p>This position provides research and evaluation support, assisting in developing a research design to evaluate the processes and impacts of risk management, including risk containment and risk reduction; and taking lead responsibility for ongoing statistical profile and analysis of the offender population. This position will prepare ad hoc data runs and reports and yearly reports regarding statistical attributes and trends of offenders, programs, services and interventions, as directed, and consistent with the KDOC Strategic Action Plan (SAP).</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:</b><b>
</b></h2><p>Conducts data pulls, analyses and comparisons, and prepares reports, regarding offender attributes, demographics, activities, trends, and behaviors, on an ad hoc and annual basis, as directed, and in support of the KDOC Strategic Action Plan (SAP). This information will come from both juvenile and adult systems as needed on behalf of the KDOC.</p><p>
Assists in identifying questions and issues to be addressed in a comprehensive SAP, to address all issues related to risk management, including risk containment and risk reduction; identify correlation between interventions and behaviors and outcomes; and identifying trends that reflect the effectiveness of various interventions related to risk reduction.</p><p>
Assists other managers in framing questions and data elements to assist in reviewing the ongoing effort to contain and reduce risk, according to proper research methodologies and practices, and as directed and requested. Assists managers in defining policy alternatives in terms of suitable for testing and analysis. Participants in ongoing discussion and strategic planning regarding data trends, what these trends mean in terms of practices, and how to continue to enhance the agencies' ability to deliver evidence-based practices regarding offenders and their behavior.</p><p>
Responds to information queries and survey questionnaires, compiles offender-related statistics for submission to national agencies, other research groups, and both KDOC and non-KDOC parties. Coordinates the review of (and reviews) research proposals submitted by other agencies and individuals outside the KDOC Research Unit, including correspondence with the researcher before, during and upon completion.</p><p>
Advises on the use of statistical analysis data retrieval/analysis capability. Prepares statistical information regarding offender population impact assessments on proposed and enacted legislation.</p><p>

The Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee position(s) in Blaine, Kansas provides employees with supervised on-the-job training in the operation of mechanical tools and light to heavy equipment used to maintain highways, rights-of-way, roads, facility grounds and related areas. Assignments are selected to provide sequential experience in practical applications of training that have been provided in controlled settings. The work that is assigned will begin with closely supervised, specific routine tasks and will progress in difficulty and independence of performance until equal to the tasks that are considered full-performance Highway Maintenance work.</p><p>
Upon successful completion of the training period and required qualifications, this position will advance to Highway Maintenance Worker I, with eligibility to participate in the Highway Maintenance Worker progression program.</p><p><b>
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:</b></p><ul><li>
Operates KDOT equipment including trucks, mowers, loaders.</li><li>
Performs manual work associated with the maintenance of highway systems: Including, but not limited to, erecting and replacing signs, erecting fence and guardrail, painting, patching, loading or unloading supplies, servicing rest areas, and litter pickup.</li><li>
Receives training in operation and maintenance of equipment, and highway repair methods and procedures.</li><li>

The primary goal of this position is to manage problems pro-actively by utilization of intelligence information received and to conduct and/or supervise internal investigations of both staff and inmates. This position serves a critical role in the overall operations of the facility by conducting criminal and administrative investigations of any matter that is referred to the incumbent.</p><p><b>
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:</b></p><p>
This position is responsible for the supervision of the daily intelligence gathering and investigative activities and related personnel administration functions of the El Dorado Correctional Facility Enforcement, Apprehensions and Investigations (EAI) Division; as well as performing highly specialized technical work providing criminal investigation and intelligence collection duties for the Kansas Department of Corrections under the direction of the EAI Director. The incumbent reports regularly to the EAI Director and facility administration as required, usually by means of conferences, to discuss findings, work progress, and/or related concerns. Incumbent must maintain the highest ideals of professionalism, confidentiality, and public service in carrying out duties and responsibilities. This position serves a critical role in the overall safety and security operations of the facility; to include monitoring and evaluating internal activities and conducting criminal investigation of cases involving introduction of contraband, narcotics, threats and acts of violence, sexual assaults, white-collar crimes, disturbances, and other violations committed against the State of Kansas. The candidate will conduct investigations which may extend over periods of weeks or perhaps months, which require application of the full range of investigative techniques, including online database research, surveillance and interviewing in order to affect the apprehension and prosecution of suspects and violators. The candidate will also confer with prosecutors for preparation and presentation of evidence in courts of law and other legal proceedings. The candidate will provide assistance to other criminal justice agencies as time and circumstances permit.</p><p></p><p><b>

Minimum Qualifications</b></p><ul><li>
Must meet all minimum qualifications and necessary special requirements for CO I A;</li><li>
Be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment;</li><li>
Have three years of relevant experience in the field of corrections or in the detention of convicted offenders including one year of supervisory experience;</li><li>
and have successfully completed the Corrections Officer Training Program (COTP).<ul><li>
At the discretion of the agency, college coursework in criminal justice, the behavioral sciences, or the social sciences, or completion of corrections officer training in another jurisdiction may be substituted for some or all of the required COTP and for some or all of the required non-supervisory experience.</li></ul></li></ul><p><b>

Five years&rsquo; experience in corrections or detention work. Previous investigation or law enforcement experience.</li></ul><p><b>
