We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Construction Accountant with proven construction accounting experience to handle essential financial operations in a collaborative yet independent environment. This role requires full-time presence in our office—no remote work is offered.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Process vendor invoices accurately and efficiently
- Prepare and issue checks or electronic payments
- Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
Accounts Receivable
- Receive and apply customer payments
- Reconcile accounts and follow up on outstanding items
Annual & Compliance Duties
- Prepare 1099 forms and collect W-9 documentation
- Support year-end accounting close processes for external CPA
- Review and discuss financial information with bonding company
- Assist with other periodic compliance and reporting tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Required: Proven experience in construction accounting (must have hands-on knowledge of construction-specific financial practices, including job costing, retainage, percentage-of-completion, and work-in-progress reporting)
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Knowledge of Sage 100 Contractor (or similar construction accounting software) strongly preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of the full MS Office suite
- Solid understanding of GAAP and standard accounting principles applied to the construction industry
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate financial data, identify trends or issues, and provide actionable insights
- Proven ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion on significant matters
- Self-motivated with strong time management skills; able to work independently under broad guidelines while contributing effectively to a small team
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Proactive problem-solver who offers practical insights and resolutions
