Position Overview

Speth CPAs, a growing local CPA firm in Knoxville, Tennessee, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional who wants to gain hands-on experience in public accounting while working closely with experienced CPAs and serving a diverse client base.


This full-time salaried role will involve working with individuals and businesses to maintain accurate financial records, support tax compliance, and assist with financial reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate is organized, eager to learn, and interested in developing skills in tax preparation, bookkeeping, financial reporting, and client advisory services within a collaborative professional environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare individual, corporate, and partnership tax returns
  • Assist with bookkeeping and monthly accounting services for clients
  • Perform account reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and financial reports
  • Assist with tax planning and compliance projects
  • Manage and record daily financial transactions and maintain general ledger accuracy
  • Review budgets and provide financial insights when applicable
  • Communicate with clients to request documentation and respond to basic accounting questions
  • Utilize accounting and tax software along with internal systems to maintain client records
  • Support senior staff and partners on various client engagements


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (MAcc preferred but not required)
  • 0–2 years of accounting experience (internship or public accounting experience preferred but not required)
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements
  • Experience with accounting software, bookkeeping systems, and data analysis tools preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client interaction
  • CPA eligibility or interest in pursuing CPA certification is a plus
