Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant with a proven background in coal trading to manage and oversee the firm’s financial and accounting operations. The role requires strong expertise in handling coal trading transactions, statutory compliance, taxation, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will bring both technical accounting skills and industry-specific knowledge to ensure accuracy, compliance, and profitability in business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise the complete accounting function, including accounts payable, receivable, general ledger, and reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate records of coal purchases, sales, freight, logistics, demurrage, port handling, and related expenses.
- Prepare and finalize financial statements, including Profit & Loss Account, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statements.
- Ensure full compliance with GST, TDS, Income Tax, Customs, and all statutory regulations applicable to coal trading.
- Handle financial aspects of import/export transactions, including Letters of Credit (LCs), bank guarantees, forex transactions, and remittances.
- Monitor working capital, client/vendor payment cycles, and credit limits, and ensure timely collections and disbursements.
- Prepare and present MIS reports, cost analysis, and profitability statements to management for decision-making.
- Liaise with auditors, consultants, and statutory authorities for audits and compliance reviews.
- Implement and maintain strong internal financial controls and accounting best practices.
- Guide and mentor junior accountants, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Provide financial insights to management on coal trading margins, risk management, and cost optimization.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, or Finance (CA/ICWA/Inter CA preferred).
- 5–8 years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 3–4 years in a coal trading firm (mandatory).
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, coal trading processes, and related financial operations.
- Strong understanding of logistics, port operations, freight, and import/export financial documentation.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (Tally/other ERPs) and advanced MS Excel.
- Excellent knowledge of GST, TDS, Income Tax, and other statutory compliance.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
