Division: Instructional Support Services/Business Office

Duties: OCM BOCES is seeking a detail-oriented, collaborative, and motivated Accountant I to join our Instructional Support Services (ISS) division. This accounting position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing program budgets, and ensuring compliance with New York State Education Department (NYSED) guidelines. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundational knowledge of accounting principles, excellent spreadsheet skills, and a desire to support the educational infrastructure that services our component school districts. They should have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and be able to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial staff. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential, and experience with WinCap is preferred.
Key Responsibilities: Budget Management: Assist in the preparation, implementation, and tracking of the ISS division’s annual budgets and Co-Ser (Cooperative Service) financial plans; Financial Reporting: Prepare regular financial reports for various instructional programs and grants; Accounts Payable & Receivable: Review and process purchase orders and invoices; Grant Compliance:_ Monitor local, state, and federal grant expenditures to ensure strict adherence to specific funding guidelines and reporting deadlines; Collaboration_: Work closely with ISS program coordinators, directors, and the business office to provide clear, actionable financial data.
Qualifications: Promotional: Two (2) years of permanent competitive class status in the title of Account Clerk III.
Open Competitive: Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting OR four (4) years of accounting, financial auditing, or full charge bookkeeping experience which is defined as experience which must have involved the accumulation of financial and statistical data into general and subsidiary ledgers and journals and the compilation of this material into financial reports and studies.
This is a competitive class civil service position. Candidates must be reachable on the existing eligibility list. If there is no mandated eligible list, candidates will be considered for provisional appointment. Continued employment will be contingent on successfully passing the required examination and being reachable on the Accountant I eligibility list.
Pay: $60,318.00 - $67,871.00 per year
