Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies. This role plays a key part in the financial operations of the behavioral health hospital, including general ledger management, reconciliations, and assisting with audits and budgeting processes.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Financial Reporting & General Ledger

  • Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and supporting documentation
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
  • Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner

Accounts Payable & Receivable Support

  • Support accounts payable and receivable functions as needed
  • Review invoices, expense reports, and payment requests for accuracy and compliance
  • Assist with tracking outstanding receivables and resolving billing issues

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure all documentation meets hospital, state, and federal requirements
  • Assist with audits and surveys related to credentialing and administrative records
  • Maintain accurate databases and tracking systems for credentialing status

Compliance & Regulatory Support

  • Ensure adherence to healthcare financial regulations and internal policies
  • Assist with audits, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation
  • Maintain compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements
  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of departmental and organizational budgets
  • Provide financial analysis and variance reporting
  • Support leadership with financial data for decision-making

Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement and regulatory requirements preferred
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Requirements:

  • CPA or progress toward CPA preferred
  • Experience with government or healthcare accounting and familiarity with Medicaid/Medicare billing or state budget process preferred.

  • Must be able to pass a background check prior to employment.
