Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing all financial and accounting activities of the construction division, including project accounting, cost control, financial reporting, and compliance. The role ensures accurate tracking of project costs, timely billing, and adherence to financial regulations, supporting management with insights for effective decision-making and profitability tracking.
Key Responsibilities:1. Project Accounting & Cost Control
- Maintain accurate records of all project-related expenses, material purchases, and subcontractor payments.
- Monitor and control project budgets, comparing actual costs against estimates.
- Prepare project cost reports and profitability analyses for ongoing and completed projects.
- Ensure all project revenues, variations, and progress billings are accurately recorded and billed on time.
- Liaise with project managers and procurement teams to verify project cost data and ensure proper allocation.
2. Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for management review.
- Ensure timely closing of accounts and reconciliation of all ledgers.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide explanations for deviations from budget.
- Support management in preparing cash flow forecasts, feasibility studies, and project profitability reports.
3. Compliance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, local tax regulations, and company accounting policies.
- Prepare and file VAT returns and other statutory reports.
- Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary schedules and supporting documents.
- Implement and maintain internal control systems to safeguard company assets.
4. Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Review supplier invoices, subcontractor bills, and verify supporting documentation before approval.
- Manage payments to vendors and subcontractors as per contract terms.
- Oversee client invoicing and follow-up for timely collection of receivables.
- Maintain aging reports and assist in resolving payment disputes.
5. Payroll & Expense Management
- Supervise payroll preparation and ensure compliance with labour laws and company policies.
- Verify site petty cash and project expense claims.
6. Team Leadership & Coordination
- Supervise and guide junior accountants in daily operations.
- Liaise with procurement, HR, and project departments for financial coordination.
- Train team members on accounting best practices and internal controls.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce (Master’s preferred).
- Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, CMA, or CA is an advantage.
- Minimum 5–8 years of accounting experience in the construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of project accounting, cost control, and construction contracts (FIDIC familiarity preferred).
- Proficient in accounting software such as Tally, QuickBooks, SAP, or ERP systems.
- Advanced MS Excel skills for financial analysis and reporting.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
