Accounting Analyst I

JOB SUMMARY
The Accounting Analyst I will perform general staff accountant duties which will include contributions to the audit and end of year processes, tracking of grants, assisting in accounts payable and receivable, preparing financial reports, and providing support as needed.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

General Finance and Accounting Duties
  • Performs accounting functions for the maintenance and integrity of the County’s financial reporting systems to include:
    • Assist with general ledger entries and other accounting related duties, monitoring and reconciling assigned accounts, and monitoring reserve accounts (accounts that carry over fiscal years);
      • Coordinate purchase card transactions and reconcile purchase card accounts;
      • Assist with payroll and benefit accounting entries as needed;
      • Run financial reports;
      • Assist with annual audit;
      • Assist with year-end closeout;
      • Generate department requisitions, purchase orders, receipts, and vouchers originating in assigned work unit as necessary.

Grant Administration & Compliance
  • Supports Accounting Analyst II on grant processes to include:
    • Collecting information as required;
      • Researching grant requirements;
      • Maintaining grant compliance logs and tracking;
      • Providing general accounting support.

Budgeting
  • Supports Accounting Analyst II in the following ways:
    • Gather information for monthly and annual budget processes;
    • Enters budget amendments and transfers;
    • Monitor expenses compared to budget.

Advanced Accounting & Financial Analysis
  • Assists integrating upgrades, modifications, and implementation of various financial computer system modules, databases and applications used in the accounting department.
  • Participates in continuous improvement teams as necessary.
  • Participate in financial software training days and one on one training as needed to ensure the success of the department.
  • Runs routine and ad-hoc queries and reports.
  • Enters data into electronic databases to ensure accurate processing and record keeping.
  • Sets up spreadsheets by writing formulas and functions to facilitate the processing of accounting information.

Operational & Departmental Support
  • Provides accounting technician backup as needed, to include accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Reliable attendance is an essential part of this job.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Two years of experience of progressively responsible accounting experience, governmental accounting experience preferred.
  • Excel experience required.
  • Experience with accounting systems and reporting software.
  • Valid driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of governmental accounting, grant administration, and financial compliance. Understanding of federal and state grant regulations and procurement requirements. Ability to analyze financial data, interpret regulations, and ensure compliance. Advanced Excel and financial software proficiency required. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires adaptation to changing goals,
priorities, and needs.
  • Ability to organize and communicate effectively.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, reach and
manipulate objects, tools and/or controls. The position requires mobility. Duties may involve
moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment, such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating
and air conditioning.
