This is an entry-level accounting role. We welcome candidates who are recent graduates or early in their accounting/bookkeeping careers.

Accountability:

Ensures that accounting records are maintained accurately and information is reported in a timely manner. Provides support to the entire organization with a focus on confidential work. The ability to manage details and follow processes is essential.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

Processing & Recording Financial Transactions

  • Review, code, and approve company credit card purchases.
  • Review, code, and approve vendor purchases.
  • Complete general accounting tasks such as general ledger entries.

Reconciliation & Analysis

  • Monitor, record, and reconcile mission program travel assistance and other supportive service payments.
  • Prepare monthly invoice allocation spreadsheets.
  • Prepare all bank reconciliations.

Auditing

  • Conduct periodic audits of client assistance documents.
  • Assist with period end processing and audit preparations as needed.

Sensory & Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle, feel or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Environment:

The work is conducted in the Home Office in Rockford, IL with minimal travel to all Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois locations with flexibility for remote work per organization’s policy. Qualifications & Basic Job Requirements:

  • An Associates degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent accounting/bookkeeping experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance is a plus.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and other accounting related skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with a strong emphasis on Excel proficiency.
  • Familiarity with Sage 100 accounting software is a plus.
  • Ability to focus on details and maintain high accuracy in work.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Empathy for and ability to work with individuals with disabilities and barriers to employment.
  • Ability to take direction and effectively prioritize activities/tasks/initiatives.
