Position SummaryWe are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Accounting / Bookkeeping Specialist to support the financial operations of growing start-up companies based in Upstate New York. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who is confident in handling day-to-day bookkeeping responsibilities independently and thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment.The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, prior accounting or bookkeeping experience, and the ability to maintain accurate financial records while supporting multiple operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage daily bookkeeping functions for multiple start-up business entities
- Record and reconcile financial transactions accurately and timely
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Prepare and post journal entries
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and general ledger accounts
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation
- Generate financial reports and assist management with financial analysis
- Support payroll processing and employee expense tracking as needed
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures
- Collaborate with leadership to improve accounting processes and efficiencies
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience required
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles and bookkeeping practices
- Confidence and accuracy in preparing bookkeeping entries independently
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar ERP/accounting systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines effectively
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred but not required with equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with start-up or rapidly growing companies
- Multi-company or multi-entity accounting experience
- Payroll or administrative accounting support experience
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
