Accounting / Bookkeeping Specialist

Position SummaryWe are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Accounting / Bookkeeping Specialist to support the financial operations of growing start-up companies based in Upstate New York. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who is confident in handling day-to-day bookkeeping responsibilities independently and thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment.The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, prior accounting or bookkeeping experience, and the ability to maintain accurate financial records while supporting multiple operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage daily bookkeeping functions for multiple start-up business entities
  • Record and reconcile financial transactions accurately and timely
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Prepare and post journal entries
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and general ledger accounts
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation
  • Generate financial reports and assist management with financial analysis
  • Support payroll processing and employee expense tracking as needed
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures
  • Collaborate with leadership to improve accounting processes and efficiencies

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience required
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and bookkeeping practices
  • Confidence and accuracy in preparing bookkeeping entries independently
  • Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar ERP/accounting systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines effectively
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred but not required with equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with start-up or rapidly growing companies
  • Multi-company or multi-entity accounting experience
  • Payroll or administrative accounting support experience
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
