Position Summary
The City of Lowell is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to support daily financial operations within the Finance Department. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and requires hands-on experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced municipal environment with multiple priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable, including invoice review, coding, and payment processing
- Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing, collections, and receipt posting
- Perform monthly bank account reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy
- Assist with general ledger entries and financial reporting
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records and documentation
- Respond to inquiries from vendors, departments, and the public in a professional manner
- Assist with audits and provide supporting documentation as requested
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in accounting or related field preferred
- At least 2 years of direct experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations (required)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, interruptions, and deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in municipal or government accounting
- Familiarity with fund accounting principles
- Experience with ERP or municipal finance systems
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $60,000 – $70,000, depending on qualifications
