Accounting Clerk

Accounting Clerk Job Summary

The Accounting Clerk supports the finance and accounting department by performing a variety of clerical and administrative tasks related to financial record-keeping, data entry, and reporting. This role ensures financial data is accurate, up-to-date, and in compliance with company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Record day-to-day financial transactions and complete the posting process in the general ledger
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoices, payments, and reconciliations
  • Verify the accuracy of invoices and other financial documents
  • Reconcile bank statements and assist with month-end and year-end close procedures
  • Prepare and issue checks, ACH payments, and wire transfers as directed
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial filing systems (physical and digital)
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports, summaries, and statements
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding billing and account information
  • Support audits by providing requested documentation and records
  • Assist with payroll processing and expense report reviews as needed
  • Perform data entry with a high degree of accuracy

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred

Experience

  • 1–2 years of experience in an accounting, bookkeeping, or clerical finance role preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Experience with accounting software QuickBooks preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles (debits, credits, GAAP basics)
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, in-office schedule
  • Standard business hours; occasional overtime during month-end or year-end close
  • Sedentary role with extended periods of computer use

Compensation

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $25.00 per hour
