Accounting Clerk Job Summary
The Accounting Clerk supports the finance and accounting department by performing a variety of clerical and administrative tasks related to financial record-keeping, data entry, and reporting. This role ensures financial data is accurate, up-to-date, and in compliance with company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Record day-to-day financial transactions and complete the posting process in the general ledger
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoices, payments, and reconciliations
- Verify the accuracy of invoices and other financial documents
- Reconcile bank statements and assist with month-end and year-end close procedures
- Prepare and issue checks, ACH payments, and wire transfers as directed
- Maintain organized and accurate financial filing systems (physical and digital)
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports, summaries, and statements
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding billing and account information
- Support audits by providing requested documentation and records
- Assist with payroll processing and expense report reviews as needed
- Perform data entry with a high degree of accuracy
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
Experience
- 1–2 years of experience in an accounting, bookkeeping, or clerical finance role preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Experience with accounting software QuickBooks preferred
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles (debits, credits, GAAP basics)
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Working Conditions
- Full-time, in-office schedule
- Standard business hours; occasional overtime during month-end or year-end close
