Duties
- Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards.
- Support the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including bank reconciliations and balance sheet reviews.
- Help process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero.
- Participate in journal entry creation, double-entry bookkeeping, and account analysis to ensure accurate financial records.
- Contribute to month-end closing activities, including ledger maintenance, accruals, and financial report writing.
- Aid in the review of financial reports for accuracy and compliance with internal policies and external regulations like SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act).
- Gain exposure to specialized areas such as governmental accounting, non-profit accounting, or securities law through mentoring sessions and project involvement.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with a strong academic record.
- Demonstrated understanding of fundamental financial concepts such as debits & credits, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Familiarity with accounting software like QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or PeopleSoft is preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP standards and technical accounting principles is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data accurately.
- Excellent communication skills for effective report writing and collaboration within teams.
- Eagerness to learn about SOX compliance, LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), tax experience, auditing processes, and regulatory reporting requirements.
