Accounting Manager

What the Role Is

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day operational accounting activities for a growing multi-location retail services company. This role is responsible for managing operational accounting processes including accounts payable governance, cash management, bank reconciliations, and transactional accounting while leading a small accounting team.

The Accounting Manager will work closely with the accounting and field leadership while reporting directly to the Corporate Controller. This role plays an important part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and efficient accounting processes across more than 120 locations.

Local candidates only and it will be a hybrid role with 3 days in office and 2 days remote

What You’ll Be Doing

Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day operational accounting activities across multiple locations
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of bank reconciliations and operational balance sheet reconciliations
• Oversee cash management processes including site-level deposits and reconciliation procedures
• Ensure transactional accounting processes are completed accurately and in accordance with company policies
• Oversee outsourced accounts payable processing and vendor payment workflows
• Maintain authorization and approval matrices and ensure adherence to internal controls
• Review and approve ACH and check payment releases
• Oversee Convenience Store Accounting to include cash, inventory, fuel and POS-to-deposit reconciliation.
• Oversee and own invoicing and collections for a small group of accounts.
• Monitor cash deposit activity and escalate variances or missing deposits
• Lead and develop a small accounting team including Staff Accountants and an AP Lead
• Coordinate sales, use and property tax filings with outsourced partner
• Coordinate regulatory filings including business licenses, annual renewals and compliance requirements
• Support external audit requests and prepare operational accounting schedules
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience managing daily cash, store deposits, and related reconciliations across multiple locations
• Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff
• Strong general ledger accounting and reconciliation experience
• Strong knowledge and skills in Microsoft Excel, and Power BI

Preferred

• CPA or CPA candidate
• Retail or multi-location accounting environment
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central
• Experience with Patheon POS or similar retail POS systems
• Experience working with outsourced accounting or AP providers
• Basic knowledge of AI as it relates to accounting processes

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Standard office environment with a hybrid schedule. Must be able to work for extended periods on a computer and handle sensitive data with confidentiality.
