The Accounting Manager will join the Finance team with responsibility for owning key areas of the month-end close, overseeing balance sheet integrity, and supporting the accuracy and completeness of financial reporting. This role will report to the Controller and directly manage a Senior Accountant and is expected to take ownership of assigned accounting processes while contributing to the broader development and scalability of the function.
In addition to close responsibilities, this role will play a significant part in treasury operations, including daily cash management, forecasting, and planning. The position will also work closely with Finance leadership on the ongoing implementation and enhancement of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, with a focus on improving processes, controls, and system efficiency.
This role is designed as a growth-oriented position, with the opportunity to expand responsibilities over time and take on broader ownership of the close and financial reporting as the department evolves.
This role is primarily in-office to support collaboration and integration with team processes. Flexibility for remote work is available on an as-needed basis particularly after initial onboarding.
Key Responsibilities
- Own assigned areas of the month-end close, including preparation, review, and reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of financial data within assigned areas, including identification and resolution of discrepancies.
- Manage and review the work of the Senior Accountant, providing guidance, oversight, and feedback to support development and ensure quality output.
- Support the overall close process through coordination with accounting operations, ensuring timelines are met and deliverables are completed.
- Take ownership of daily treasury activities, including monitoring cash balances, recording transactions, and supporting short-term cash forecasting and planning.
- Assist in the review of outgoing cash requirements, including ACH and wire payments, as part of weekly disbursement processes.
- Support audit activities by preparing schedules, responding to requests, and maintaining documentation across assigned areas.
- Act as a key participant in the implementation and ongoing enhancement of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, working closely with Finance and IT to improve workflows, system functionality, and data integrity.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency across accounting and treasury functions.
- Support ad hoc projects and initiatives as priorities evolve.
Qualifications
- 5–8 years of accounting experience
- At least 2 years of experience in public accounting preferred
- Private industry experience preferred
- CPA designation is preferred
- Prior experience owning or significantly contributing to the month-end close process.
- Experience reviewing work and/or providing guidance to junior staff preferred.
- Strong understanding of balance sheet accounting and reconciliation processes.
- Experience working within an ERP environment required
- Experience in Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Business Central preferred
- Strong systems aptitude and interest in process improvement and automation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard business tools.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders.
Compensations
Skurnik Wines & Spirits offers a competitive compensation package with expected first-year salary between $120,000 - $140,000 not including a discretionary bonus and competitive benefits package. This salary range is an average range for this position. In determining a final offer, the company will evaluate a specific candidate's education, skills and experience and will make an offer appropriately.
