Job description: Finance/Accounting Manager (with potential growth into Director of Finance)

We are seeking a W2 employee, not a consultant/contractor. We offer steady and ongoing work for an enthusiastic and organized finance/accounting professional with experience managing both nonprofit and for-profit accounting. We are looking for someone with strong fiscal management, knowledge of Quickbooks Online required and BigTime software knowledge is a bonus. The primary role of the position is to maintain books, budgeting and staff allocations for a nonprofit called the California Green Business Network and the same for Environmental Innovations, a benefit corporation. This is a rare opportunity to eventually (quickly) step into a leadership/executive position on a team with a supportive and positive work culture that is growing at a sustainable rate.

Key responsibilities

The Finance Manager for the California Green Business Network and Environmental Innovations is responsible for the following:

  • Together with a staff of yourself, a part-time accounting consulting, a full-time Office Manager/bookkeeper and a part-time administrator, oversee all the accounting needs of both organizations and as detailed in the bullets below.
  • Report quarterly budgets to the Board of Directors for CAGBN and to the President of EI
  • Track cash flow needs for both organizations and report to the President of EI and Executive Directors of CAGBN.
  • Rectify accounts monthly and close out budget years.
  • Taxes: Oversee Form 990 completion for nonprofit by CPA. Bonus if you are a CPA and can do it yourself. Oversee end of year P&L and Balance Sheet for EI to provide to CPA for taxes. Process quarterly corporate tax payments for EI.
  • Set up “projects” for budget tracking and staff allocations based on workplans/budgets for team leaders. Track materials purchases and travel expenses as well.
  • Maintain spreadsheet tracking of overall budget for both organizations where warranted.
  • Track expenses and recoup billable expense costs.
  • Invoice predominantly government clients monthly and follow up with collection on overdue invoices.
  • Process business rebates, and pay contracted partners.
  • Together with the Executive team, track insurance, licenses, subcontracts, and contracts for all projects.

Technical skills Required

  • Education, training, knowledge, and work experience in the finance, accounting and bookkeeping field.
  • Organizational and Project management skills
  • Quickbooks Online experience required, BigTime software knowledge a bonus
  • Google Suite familiarity: Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, etc.
  • Data tracking and analysis including advanced spreadsheet functions and data imports on Google Sheets, Excel, and other database platforms.
  • CPA is a huge plus.

  • Accustomed to balancing many priorities and tasks

Additional skills and experience to highlight in your cover letter (preferable but not required) :

  • Leadership experience
  • Experience working with environmental consulting firms and/or nonprofits
  • Higher degree in accounting related field

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $125,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
