This class manages the personnel and activities of a centralized accounting/financial support function.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations
Manages the activities of a centralized accounting/financial support function, by planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating programs, projects, processes, procedures, systems, and standards, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards, monitoring and interpreting changes in laws and regulations related to public agency financing and financial reporting, and evaluating their impact on applicable activities
Manages and coordinates the production of applicable financial reports, statements, reconciliations, and/or payroll activities in assigned area of responsibility
Confers with internal departments regarding financial matters; facilitates the resolution of problems and the development of coordinated policies
Performs advanced accounting activities, which includes: producing data for consultants, project financing, and fee studies; assisting departments with financial calculations and projections; preparing reports; reviewing financial data to ensure accuracy; and, performing other related activities
Oversees and coordinates annual and periodic external and internal audits; manages analytical studies; develops and reviews reports of findings, alternatives, and recommendations; manages the maintenance of related records and files
Monitors and maintains applicable software in assigned area of responsibility
Performs other duties as assigned
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field and at least three years of accounting experience; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane or other emergency situation, and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity, and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
