POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Accounting Manager is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the School’s day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, accounts payable processing, and financial reporting support. This role works closely with the Business Office to ensure accurate recording of tuition, payroll, and development-related financial activity while maintaining strong internal controls. The Accounting Manager supports the Chief Financial Officer in maintaining sound financial practices, efficient processes, and accurate financial reporting.
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position.

GENERAL DUTIES
Accounting & Financial Operations

Maintain the School’s general ledger and supporting schedules.

Prepare and post journal entries, subject to CFO review and approval.

Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations.

Prepare accounting schedules and documentation supporting the monthly close process.

Assist in the preparation of financial reports and supporting materials for leadership and Board reporting.
Accounts Payable & Cash Management

Record accounts payable transactions and prepare payment batches for CFO approval.

Maintain vendor records and support vendor onboarding and documentation.

Record deposits and ensure proper coding of revenue, including tuition and charitable contributions.

Reconcile bank activity and maintain accurate documentation of cash transactions.
Tuition & Revenue Support

Record tuition revenue and reconcile FACTS settlement reports to the general ledger.

Assist with financial analysis related to student withdrawals, tuition adjustments, and revenue tracking.

Partner with the Business Office to ensure accurate financial recording of billing activity.
Development & Donation Accounting

Record charitable contributions and restricted gifts in the general ledger.

Reconcile development records with accounting records.

Support improvements to donation processing workflows and related financial reporting.
Payroll & Benefits Support

Review payroll reports prepared by the Business Office prior to CFO approval.

Record payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts.
Audit & Compliance

Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for the annual financial audit.

Assist in maintaining financial policies and internal control procedures.

Ensure accounting processes align with internal control standards and best practices.
Process Improvement

Support cross-departmental financial process improvements involving Admissions, Development, and the Business Office.

Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency and strengthen financial reporting accuracy.

Assist the CFO in strengthening financial systems, internal controls, and documentation.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit, independent school, or mission-driven organizations.

Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.

Experience with accounting software and financial systems; QuickBooks and FACTS experience preferred.

Strong understanding of accounting principles and internal controls.

Experience supporting financial audits and preparing audit schedules preferred.

Ability to work collaboratively across departments while maintaining financial accuracy and discipline.
