Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Accounting Specialist for the Bureau of Engineering Research at the School of Engineering. This position will report to the School of Engineering Grants and Contracts Office – Post Award under the management of the Sr. Business Manager.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Ensures the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.
  • Provides professional, prompt, and courteous service to faculty and staff clients.
  • Analyzes and reviews financial data.
  • Prepares financial statements and reports for both internal and external purposes.
  • Resolves a diverse range of problems consistent with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the office and consistent with a comprehensive understanding of accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable regulations, and university policies and procedures.
  • Interprets, communicates, and implements policies and practices to meet the needs of a diverse client population.
  • Works independently, with broadly defined work objectives.
  • Performs professional work requiring specialized knowledge in one or more fields of accounting/finance and a solid understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, and terminology, and applied bases in externally sponsored research and scholarship.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting function.

Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with sponsored project accounting and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Five years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting function.
