Affordable Housing, Education and Development (AHEAD) Inc. is a community-based non-profit housing development organization dedicated to strengthening families by helping them build and preserve assets for the future. We understand that stable families, and particularly homeowners, are the backbone of a vital community and that safe, warm affordable homes, family resources, and financial assets are essential tools for strengthening families and communities. Since 1991, AHEAD has lived its mission by providing safe, affordable rental housing, family support and financial education to thousands of rural northern New Hampshire families residing in Coös and northern Grafton Counties.
Position Summary:
Timely and accurately completes all accounting functions for AHEAD’s housing, commercial and corporate entities and assists in organizational and administrative tasks as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Accounting Specialist will perform all accounting functions and additional tasks as assigned, including:
§ Maintain vendor files including W-9 and certificates of insurance.
§ Process invoices for multiple entities in a timely manner.
§ Process deposits, withdrawals and transfers between reserve, escrow, and operating accounts and maintain documentation.
§ Process checks and electronic payments and maintain supporting documents.
§ Identify and research discrepancies and work with vendors to resolve.
§ Process account payable adjustments and corrections in a timely manner.
§ Process 1099 forms annually and all tax payments by the due dates.
§ Reconcile scanned tenant rent payments to deposit totals daily.
§ Process cash receipts from all sources daily, including banking.
§ Process HAP, RD and Subsidy receipts monthly.
§ Process returned tenant checks, rent adjustments and corrections.
§ Process move-in and move-out tenant transactions, including receipt and return of security deposits.
§ Process monthly journal entries for multiple entities.
§ Submit and track Replacement Reserve draw requests.
§ Complete monthly bank account reconciliations and financial statements.
§ Prepare related party annual agreements for custodial and maintenance services.
§ Reconcile related party transactions.
§ Assist in budget process and updating budgets in software.
§ Assist in employee file management and payroll processing.
§ Document accounting department procedures, as needed.
§ Other duties, as assigned by Controller.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be self-motivated, able to take initiative, and work independently while also working cooperatively as part of a team. Accuracy, attention to detail, strong organizational, problem solving and communication skills are essential.
Applicants must have an associate’s degree in accounting or 3 years of related accounting experience. Computer skills are required and experience with accounting software is preferred.

§ Proficient use of Microsoft Office, Adobe, Excel and accounting software.
§ Experience with Yardi software preferred.
§ Ability to identify priorities and meet deadlines.
§ Exceptional attention to detail.
§ Strong written and oral communication skills.
§ Creativity, collaboration and problem solving.
§ Understand and model confidentiality, professionalism, and a positive attitude.

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
