Accounting Supervisor

About the Role

We are seeking an Accounting Supervisor to oversee core accounting operations supporting multiple nonprofit organizations. This is a hands-on role that reports to the Director of Finance and Administration and plays a key role in maintaining the accuracy, compliance, and financial integrity that our partner organizations depend on.

This position is responsible for all accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions and performs essential accounting activities including reconciliations, journal entries, regulatory filings, and audit support. Success in this role requires both strong technical accounting skills and sound professional judgment, along with the ability to communicate financial requirements clearly and work collaboratively across teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounts payable processes, including invoice review and coding, credit card imports, semi-monthly disbursements, electronic payments (403(b), benefits, wires), and maintenance of vendor and staff credit card records
  • Oversee accounts receivable activities, including invoicing, receipt monitoring, deposits, and maintenance of customer records
  • Prepare and post bi-weekly and monthly journal entries and maintain general ledger reconciliations
  • Maintain Weekly Cash Balance schedules and reconcile intra-organizational accounts
  • Prepare annual IRS Forms 1099 and 1096 and maintain W-9 files
  • Record and track investment transactions and maintain related schedules
  • Monitor accounting system data, allocations, and coding accuracy
  • Assist with audit requests and annual financial review processes

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (Bachelor’s preferred), or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three years of relevant accounting experience, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities
  • Strong reconciliation skills and demonstrated attention to detail in managing high-volume financial transactions
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with detailed financial data
  • Familiarity with accounting systems (Microsoft Business Central and PN3 preferred)
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment while managing routine transactional processes
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience in a nonprofit, association, educational, or other mission-driven organization a plus

Work Environment

This hybrid position is based in Washington, DC. Candidates must be within regular commuting distance and able to work in the office at least one day per week, or as organizational needs require. As part of a small shared-services team, this role may also participate in general office operations typical of a collaborative nonprofit environment.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $85,000 – $100,000

Placement within this range depends on relevant qualifications, experience, and alignment with the responsibilities of the role.
